Roadtrip!

So the lover has booked his flight out here to the east coast and is scheduled to arrive May 20th! Woo hoo!

Conveniently, I will just be finishing up finals and we will have a whole week to spend in glorious, mindless bliss!

Nothing is set in stone yet but we are definitely considering taking a roadtrip through New York and Montreal. If we feel up to it, perhaps Quebec City will be in the works as well? We shall see..

As the lack of my posts indicate, school and work have completely consumed my life. I apologize for my short and shallow posts... I know it's cheating to just post picture after picture without adding any personal insight but I figured it was better than letting my blog rot. I really do hope that I'll be able to tear myself away from textbooks and work long enough to sit down and actually write a decent post this weekend -- because I wholeheartedly enjoy blogging!

Here's a list of things I'd like to see/do on this upcoming roadtrip:

1. The Catskills Mountains
2. Lake Placid
3. Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal
4. Old Montreal
5. Ovarium Floatation Baths Pulsar Massage Therapy (A DEFO.)
6. Montreal Botanical Gardens
7. Mount Royal
8. New York State Capitol
9. Lake Champlain
10. La Banquise - Arguably the best poutine place in town... 25 different types of poutine!!!
11. Aux Vivres - Montreal's first vegan restaurant
12. Yankees v. Blue Jays game!!!!
13. Any other restaurant with amazing food. :)

Exactly, my friend.
Oh hell, let's just cut the crap and admit that this trip is going to be 90% food-based... That's fine by me! Poutine Roadtrip!!!!!!

Suggestions?

Check out the 620 Loft and Garden at the Top of the Rock in NYC.

I could seriously dieeeeeeeee.

Like, I mean. Death would really be okay right now.

LOOK at that place! Sooooooooooooo amazinggggggggg!!!

Sigh. The only drawback? It's $330 per person. Ouch.

A girl can dream, right?

Bachelorette Spa Retreat?

I just attended one of my dearest and darlingest friends' bachelorette party and it. was. a. blast. She had it at a drag show and it was too much fun. Amazing amazing amazinggggg times!

The bachelorette and friends.

Moi and Rob.

One of the fabulous performers!

This got me thinking.

How do I want to celebrate my last moments as a "bachelor"? I'm not sure of anything right now but I do know that the last few months have been nothing but chaos so what I would KILL for is a spa weekend getaway. YESSSSSSSS.

I want to be her.

So I googled some in this area and came across the Spa at Hotel Hershey. That's right. Hershey. As in CHOCOLATEEEEE!!!!! Um. Hello? Spa plus Hershey's chocolate? Too freakin' good to be true.

Chocolate. Spoon some into my mouth while you're at it.

Or strawberry!
How FREAKIN' amazing is that???? It's also a bonus that the hotel itself is TOTALLY pimped out!

Um. Holler.
Can I get a HAIL YEAYUH?

I want my ass to smell like hershey kisses when I leave. Literally. :)

Pan-Pacific Hotel in Vancouver!

The Yonce went to go scope out the Pan-Pacific today and sent me these to share:

Fantastic views all around. I think Brian really likes this one... Choices are getting tough and we're going to have to make a decision REAL SOON! EEK!

St. John's in Shaughnessy

Church shopping. Photos taken at dusk but I think you'll be able to get a good idea of the place.

Photos courtesy of Brian. It's right around the corner from his current pad. I really like the location and the modern architecture (modern for an Anglican Church at least). The beautiful grounds are also a plus. Whatchyall think?

Full-blown Demetrios Kick!!!

Totally tried on four Demetrios dresses and I. AM. IN. LOVE.

I have completely changed my ideal dress. No more poofy ballgown. No more extravagant 20 feet long train.

Here's the dress I tried on today and LOVED.

Pretty drastic change in style, eh? Still got some bling to it though. :) My change of heart came when Brian and I decided to have a more modern, rooftop, cocktail style wedding venue. I just couldn't picture having a big, heavy, obstructing (however glorious) dress in a cocktail setting. Ya dig?

Here are some other Demetrios dresses that are fabulous (Can't wait to try these on!):

Best part about them? Demetrios dresses are 100% within my budget!!!!!! :)

Wedding Dress Try-ons Commence

Being back in Delaware totally blows.

I don't have a problem with the state itself and the weather has been pretty decent lately so it obviously has to do with the ridiculous schedule that I'm back to. Sigh. Only six weeks left of this madness!

So when I left for Vancouver my dress count had been 25 (This is approximate). I tried on nine more dresses during my spring break which brings my grand total to 34! I have now tried on 34 dresses! Whew!

I still don't think I've come across THE dress yet although I've come across many "maybe's". I'm hoping that as soon as THE dress is on me, I'll have like an out of body experience or something which will clearly scream "THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE ONE! TAKE ME!" So far I've had a few "this could be the one" mini-bursts but nothing life-changing. Yet.

Here's a snippet from my dress try-on sesh from a boutique in Burnaby (None of which I really fancied):

But it was fun nonetheless.

I have another dress sesh today in an hour which I'm super excited about because I have discovered an affordable designer with BLING: Demetrios

Plans for the rest of the weekend? Free dinner at the swanky Potstickers because I happen to have connections like that. My girlfriend Julie is currently dating the owner's son so she knows how to hook it up! Then... HARD. CORE. STUDYING. Like I'm talking Guantanamo Bay style -- In a windowless room with no other stimulation than the notes and books in front of me. Sad panda.

Anyways, I'll do my best to be a dutiful blogger and continue to post blogs here and there. Thanks for reading! :)

Back to square one. :(

So..... The Chairman's Suite at the Pacific Rim isn't working out so well.

We thought that there would be some flexibility in the numbers (The max cap is 100; seated cap is 60) but it seems as if the event coordinator is standing by her limit of 60 people for a wedding reception and that is just not going to fly.

So on to the next one.

I looked into renting some penthouses since renting them for the whole month was a better deal than renting them for a day.

Example:

The Keefer Penthouse Suite

Freakin' badass.
Which is surprisingly affordable. But I talked to the realtor and apparently the suite is now up for sale so they don't rent out past two months in advance. Boo.

There were other beautiful penthouses that caught my fancy but all of them require a minimum 2 month stay. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I was feeling a bit pessimistic and bitter about my luck since I felt that I had pretty much seen the best that the city offered so I figured that everything else was going to seem shabby and drab in comparison. BUT. All is not lost. I came across some viable options after a few hours of searching and calling. I present to you our new list of venues for consideration:

1. The Loden Hotel's Halo Penthouse Suite

2. Pan Pacific Hotel Rooftop

3. Vancouver Art Gallery Rooftop Pavillion

4. Shangri-la Hotel: Conway Room and Terrace
5. Vancouver Rowing Club
6. Terminal City Club

There's others as well but these are our current ones of interest. Feel free to throw in other suggestions!

Narrowing Down the Venue Options... TO ONE! :)

I think we may have managed to narrow down our top choice for a reception venue -- the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Coal Harbour, downtown Vancouver.

I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE.

The hotel is new and has amazing views of both natural beauty (the north shore mountains, Stanley Park, the ocean, etc.) and urban landscapes.   The hotel is also home to a multiple-level 2700 sq. ft. suite with an outdoor terrace on the 8th floor.  The space is big enough for 60 seated or 100 standing guests -- on the small side of numbers but workable.  Check out the photos:

How nice will this be in August? Seriously. I could die right now. Seriously. Now we just have to call and get the estimated cost... Keep your fingers crossed!
