My newest toy and FIVE more dresses!

Dude. I am totally converted.

I am obsessed with my new french press thermos (Thank you fabulous future sister-in-law).

So. Pretty.

Essential for my mornings at the hospital.
 Definite recommend.

So yes, I am back to my busy bee little self. I had an orientation this morning at a veterans' hospital for the psychiatric ward there and then I had the rare occasion of having the afternoon off so Anneliese and I decided to hit up a bridal boutique for some more dress try-ons! Yayyyy!

For your viewing pleasure:

I forgot the name of this brand but the company not in business anymore anyways.

A very popular Maggie Sottero dress.

Don't remember the brand but it was my first taffeta dress!

Such lovely details!

An older Maggie. Twas vintage-pretty.

Honestly. Mags has the BEST destination gowns!
I think this brings my dress count total to.... around 80ish? I've tried on a CRAPLOAD of dresses! HOLY MOLEY. I am still feeling like I haven't found "THE ONE" but just like the whole venue searching fiasco, I'm sure I'll cave at some point and pick a dress that I'm content with and slowly fall in love with it more and more as we get closer to the wedding date (I'm ECSTATIC about our Vancouver Art Gallery venue now!). All I have to do in the meantime is start saving up for my gown down payment!

Other exciting wedding news: The first wave of invitation samples are being sent to my house on Wednesday! SOOOOOOOOO looking forward to picking out the PERFECT invite and getting them out to my guests. Brian is working on the catering options and we've pretty much narrowed down our choices to two caterers (Culinary Capers and Savoury Chef). I'm leaving it up to Brian and Mama Gregg to do the tasting honors and determine which is better! Hopefully the menu will be setttled upon within the month and I will be able to get the invites out no later than November!!! We are well on our way! :)

Tomorrow will be GRUELING. I work the morning 7a to 3:30p shift at the hospital and then have to trudge on over to CIGNA for a few more hours. It's pretty much gonna be a minimum 12 hour work day. Whelps. Gotta start makin' that dough in order to supplement my painfully fabulous tastes!  Cheers to makin' that PAYPURR. Let it rain! :)

Eat Your Heart Out, Jessica Rabbit!

Holy Moley.

Seriously. I'm gaga over this Zuhair Murad dress.
This red dress makes me wish I was Chinese so I could incorporate a red dress into my wedding wardrobe. Curse my kimchi-infused veins!

He even has Japanese kimono inspired gowns!

I guess I could still swing it. People wouldn't know the difference, right? :)

I tried on some other Maggie Sottero dresses and found that I really like her line a lot! I think that Brian is getting closer to making a venue decision and then I can finally make some REAL progress on my dress search -- I've only tried on like 60 dresses! Haha!

Getting Over My "I-used-to-be-skinny" Complex.

So I had a mild panic attack tonight after kickboxing (which was fabulous by the way and a million times easier this time around).

I realized that even though the wedding was far away, my appointment at Kleinfelds was a mere MONTH away! Agh! Out goes my "1 pound a month" weight loss plan. This calls for serious crash dieting. Like Nicole Richie style dieting. Like I'm talking coffee and laxative diet.

Ew. No thanks.
Okay seriously. If I'm being realistic, even losing 10 - 15 pounds this month would be great. So that's what I'm aiming for. 15 pounds = success.

Here's my main problem. I have to come to realize that I have wayyyyy too much confidence in myself, to the point that it's debilitating and it's spawned from the simple fact that I used to be skinny. By skinny I don't mean supermodel skinny. I wasn't ever particularly thin to any outstanding point, but I was at an average height and weight and I wore a size small in all my clothes. Did I have to work to be that size? No. I did diet slightly when I felt I was getting softer than usual but I'm talking like a weekend of cutting back on french fries. I am definitely more active and diet conscious now. When I gained my first 20 pounds, I still wasn't THAT worried. Yes, I noticed it, but I didn't really think it was any cause for alarm. I was just in a ballooning stage and I would eventually wane back down to my average size 6.

Never happened.

35 pounds later, here I am, cursing myself for not stopping this snowballing weight earlier on. It wasn't what the scale said that made me take notice. It was the fact that NONE OF MY CLOTHES WOULD FIT ANYMORE. That was the real eye opener. My favorite pair of jeans? Folded up and pushed to the back of the closet. My comfy hoodie that was loose and long on me? Is now too tight and barely covers my midsection. I can't wear it mainly because it cuts off circulation in my arms. AGH. Panicking now. Would I have to wear muu muus for the rest of my life? No. I can control this. This is within my control. I can lose weight if I really want to. If I really tried. People do it all the time. This is just a phase. It's just a big phase. A big fat long phase. And now I have a wedding that I REFUSE to be fat for. Me as a fat bride? Not going to happen. I refuse to let it happen.

So. The first step to the road to recovery is admit that I am no longer the "normally skinny" girl. I have to take my place in the overweight category and work my way back. Skinny is not encoded into my genes anymore so I am part of the 90% of the population that have to actively and aggressively fight the fat tendencies. It sucks and it's not fair and I want to inject them all with a mayonaise and butter concoction but those are the cards dealt so fine.

Courses of action effective immediately:
- Pack my meals for school.
- Salads, salads, and more salads,
- Brown is the new white. :(
- Sweat everyday. For real.

Yes, I Cheated.

I know that I promised myself that I wouldn't let myself try on a dress until I lost ten pounds. Well... technically I don't know if I actually broke that promise because I honestly haven't weighed myself in the last week. But I think it's safe to say that I haven't lost ten pounds in the last seven days. So yes. Guilty as charged. However. I thought that perhaps I needed some solid motivation and what could possibly be more motivating than seeing myself look like a total cow in a wedding gown, right? Indeed.

This morning I invited my two dearest cousins Sharon and Sarah to accompany me in going to go try on a few dresses for fun. We first hit up the local David's Bridal and the place was a mad house. The place was filled with frenzied brides and bridesmaids and mothers-of-the-bride. My cousins and I split up the floor and hit our designated jurisdictions. We regrouped shortly empty-handed and I was more than ready to get outta there. I then proceeded to head to a boutique named "Fantasia Bridal" that I had passed many times on Concord Pike.

Now let me paint a picture of this place for you. Honestly if the store sign didn't have the word "Bridal" on it, I would have never guessed that it was a wedding gown boutique. The shopping center that it's in is quite run-down looking and the neon signs flashing in the display windows make it look more like an adult videostore than anything else. My cousins were a bit hesitant to go into this seedy joint, but I assured them that we would just take quick look around and then head back home.

The store was much smaller with only two racks of wedding dresses to go through. I asked the girls to select three dresses for me to try on and they immediately began scouring the two rows. Within five minutes, they had selected the three dresses and we began the tedious task of getting a dressing room set up for us. The stylist brought me a corset and slip to wear under the gowns and she had to literally lift the first dress over and on me. My first thought was "Wow, this thing is heavy!" and my second was "I hope it fits!" The girls immediately began saying how pretty the dress was and how it was the perfect classic wedding gown. It was a strapless sweetheart neckline ball gown and I agreed with the girls that it was pretty. But I just felt that it was just too..... classic. My cousins agreed. They thought the dress was missing the "Gina factor" (for a lack of a better term).

I knew I had struck gold as soon as the second dress was over my head. I heard my cousins gasp and say "That's it! This is it! So much better!" I looked at myself in the mirror and fell in love instantly with what I saw. The dress definitely represented a lot of the details I was looking for and the more I looked at the dress, the more I loved it. It was a million times better than I had originally expected. But. There was one aspect that made me hesitate and that was my requirement for a sweetheart neckline. This neckline was straight across and no matter how much I loved the dress, I found myself unable to ignore that minor detail. I mentioned this to the girls and they agreed. One dress to go.

Dress number 3 was totally different from the first two. The first two were strapless ballgowns with 20' long trains. This one was an embellished halter top with soft Grecian draping that cascaded straight down.

I am still swooning over this dress.

The girls practically gave me a standing ovation when I put it on. It was STUNNING. I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was! Oh boy, did I have a major dilemma. I was floored by this dress and felt that I absolutely had to have it but I knew that it would not fly as my ceremonial gown. I discussed this with the cuzzies and they suggested that I wear it as a reception dress after the first dance/cake cut. BRILLIANT. But would Brian be happy with this arrangement? I called him as soon as we left the boutique and asked him what he thought about the prospect of having two dresses. As expected, he was not particularly pleased. He thought it was absurd and that he didn't know anyone who had had TWO dresses at their wedding. I replied that I personally knew a couple but told him that I understood his standpoint. We ended the conversation with the cordial "We can discuss this further at a later time" spiel and hung up.

Maybe the bridezilla in me is just rearing its ugly head. I understand where Brian is coming from: two dresses would mean purchasing two dresses that I would only wear once in my entire lifetime. However, it could also mean having two once-in-a-lifetime dresses to commemorate the most important day of my life...

To be continued... :)
